BOCKtoberfest

BOCKtoberfest is a highlight of the BOCK event calendar and this year’s annual bash did not disappoint. A huge thanks to Dirk for hosting again! While the weather proved to be a little chilly in the evening and damp in the morning, the shrimp boil was fantastic as always (thanks to Ryan, Chuck, Ben, and John!) and the live music provided by Heisenberg was top notch (Thanks Dirk and company!).

BOCK Thanksgiving

The annual Thanksgiving Dinner held by Mike and Joni Kling will be held on Nov 10. The Klings once again extend their never-ending hospitality to BOCK members to come and partake in a celebration of food, laughs and beer. Bring a dish to share of any variety; appetizer, side, dessert, etc. And, of course, bring BEER! You can find directions here.

BJCP Class

The BJCP class conducted by teacher Ben Hoh is full and officially under way. Class takes place on a Thursday each month for the next 12 months or so at BDS (Brewing and Distilling Analytical Services) on Red Mile Rd. If you signed up and haven’t paid your class fees, please see our treasurer to get paid up tonight or pay via paypal as soon as possible. If you missed the class sign ups but may still be interested in taking the tasting exam next year, stay tuned as spots usually open up.

Iron Mash 2018

Thanks to all of the participants who braved what was looking like a dreary day, but shaped up real well as the day went on. The box of ingredients provided it’s usual mystery and anxiety-generating question of “what does it mean?”. There was crystal, maris otter, chocolate wheat, coconut, coffee, a limited selection of hops, and marshmallows and peanut butter cookies. The tentative turn-in date is December 5. Keep listening for details. I think I speak for everyone when I say I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Officer Elections

Several Officer positions will be up for grabs at the December meeting. I highly recommend that you take some time at the November meeting to speak with an officer about these positions if you are interested. The club relies on participation from its members to continue growing and the club cannot function without people volunteering to run it. The positions on the ballot are Scribe, Secondary Fermenter, Event Coordinator, and Director, which is a non-officer position who gets a vote in certain officer matters and an inside look at the runnings of the club.

Brewerdude.com Mash Madness

The most exciting brewing competition is off to the races. Beers are brewed and waiting for their big day at the first voting session for the inaugural Mash Madness Bracket Challenge. The first vote is at the next meeting on November 12 at Rock House Brewery. If you are interested in helping judge, please show up to Rock House at 630 and we will assign you to a grouping. Wish the competitors good luck! Check out the bracket here.
