Club Business – Mid-Year Elections

We had our mid-year elections! Corey Griffo became our new Treasurer-in-Training under the tutelage of Kelly and will take over as Treasurer in January. Tony Aiken became a Director after Brandon Peterson completed his tenure. Welcome new Officers! Thanks to Brandon for all the hard work he’s put in!

We will be having end-of-year elections in December for the Event Coordinator In Training, Secondary Fermenter, Scribe, and the other Director positions. Please consider serving a term. Reach out to any of the officers with any questions you have about this.

Learn to Homebrew

The Lexington Public Library invited BOCK to present a Learn to Homebrew seminar at their Village Branch location on July 20th. Our very own Dirk Franzen and Tim Meehan will be out there to teach those that are interested and helped further our goal as a 501(c)3 Educational Non-Profit.

If you know anyone that is interested in learning the basics to Home Brewing, pass along this info. Event details on Facebook.

2019 BrewerDude Mash Madness

The 2019 BrewerDude Mash Madness competition is gearing up for it’s second annual showing. This bracket-style competition pits brewers against each other, single elimination style until we have a single undefeated victor! Thanks to www.brewerdude.com for sponsoring this fun competition again!

The first round of match ups will be drawn during the September meeting. If you are interested in signing up to compete, please sign up here. Note that we will be capping the number of competitors/teams at 24, so don’t procrastinate if you want in.

Note: if you’re already registered, you don’t need to fill out the registration form again.

Kentucky State Fair Competition

The Kentucky State Fair Homebrew Competition registration is now closed. If you signed up, make sure you fill out additional entry information. Entry turn-in is on August 7th between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. BOCK will be collecting entries at Rock House Brewing between July 29th and August 6th for a mass transport. We’re looking for a volunteer to drive the entries to Louisville on August 7th (we’ll help cover your gas). Reach out to scribe@bockbrew.com if you’re interested.

Info can be found at https://kystatefair.org/participate/compete/ (listed 2/3 down the page as Homebrew Beer). Rules can be found here.

Beer & Sweat

We neglected to mention at the meeting that there is one more competition coming up. Beer & Sweat, put on by the Bloatarian Brewing League, will be on Saturday, August 17 at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott. If you don’t know what this is, it is the largest all keg homebrew competition in the country. After the competition is over, it turns into a huge keg party, with roughly 300 kegs! It‘s a fun competition to enter, a great opportunity to judge or steward, and one heck of a party afterwards.

Registration isn’t open yet, but will be soon. You can reserve your room now at a special price (HIGHLY recommended if you will be staying for the keg party). Here is the link to reserve a room at the discounted price.

Lets have a big BOCK showing and bring home some medals!

Home Brew Con 2020

Next year’s Home Brew Con will be in Nashville from June 18th through the 20th. We would like to have our own booth at the Club Night event, and could use some help designing and building the booth, organizing, and generally having some extra help for whatever needs to get done. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Tony Aiken
