Outgoing Note from Tim Meehan

Since this is the last issue of Froth that I will be writing during my tenure as Scribe this year, I would like to thank all of the awesome officers that made this easier than it should have been. While it doesn’t take an overwhelming amount of work or dedication to be an officer, it does take some. I can say that everyone serving put a lot of both of these in, and they also stayed very responsive and collaborative; and for that, I thank you all.

I also want to thank Chuck Anderson. As the previous scribe, he put a lot of effort into getting Froth to it’s current form and format, which is much easier to put together than the previous versions. I was able to step into a process that was already fleshed out and streamlined. Thanks, Chuck!

Finally, I want to thank Katy Miller for volunteering to be your next Scribe. Please help me welcome her into this role! Also, consider volunteering for the job in 2021.

Iron Mash

Iron Mash beers are due at BrewerDude by January 10th at 7:00 PM! Because Mash Madness and Iron Mash beers are due the same day, please be sure to label your beer for Iron Mash or Mash Madness so we don’t open your beer for the wrong competition.

Judging for Iron Mash and Mash Madness 2nd Round will take place at Rock House on Sunday, January 12th at 1:00. Clay needs 6-8 judges who did not participate in Iron Mash to judge those beers (15 beers total, two flights, 3-4 judges per flight). If you are competing in either or both competitions and also judging, you can bring your entries directly to the judging on the 12th. Reach out to Clay if you can help out.

2019 BrewerDude Mash Madness

Second round beers are due at BrewerDude by January 10th at 7:00 PM!

Clay needs 8-12 judges for the Mash Madness beers (8 beers in four head-to-head matchups, 2-3 judges per matchup). If you are competing in either or both competitions and also judging, you can bring your entries directly to the judging on the 12th. Reach out to Clay if you can help out.

Full bracket can be found here.

NHC 2020

The 2020 National Homebrew Competition is coming up fast, so start taking inventory of your aged beers and craft your recipes for the fresh ones. NHC registration will be open from January 14th through the 22nd. Details here.

2020 Blue Stallion Lager Competition

It’s almost time for BSB’s annual Lager Competition! Kickoff and yeast distribution will be at our February BOCK meeting (February 10th at Blue Stallion); be sure to bring a SYTD (Sanitized Yeast Transportation Device)!

2020 Bluegrass Cup

Save-the-Date for our biggest production of the year: May 30th at Lexington Brewing & Distilling Shrewsbury Hall. Call for volunteers will be forthcoming.

Stan Hieronymus Presentation

A huge thanks goes to Stan Hieronymus for the awesome talk he gave us about hops. The new findings about only needing 10 minutes to get all the bitterness power out of the hops was mind-blowing information.

You can get Stan’s monthly newsletter, Hop Queries, by subscribing here.

2019 Holiday Potluck

Thanks to Nathan Hoskins and his family for hosting BOCK’s annual holiday potluck at their home on December 14th.

Home Brew Con 2020

Next year’s Home Brew Con will be in Nashville from June 18th through the 20th. We would like to have our own booth at the Club Night event, and could use some help deciding on a theme, designing and building the booth, organizing, and generally having some extra help for whatever needs to get done. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Tony Aiken

BOCK T-Shirts

We have some extra BOCK t-shirts available for $15. If you are interested, please reach out primary@bockbrew.com. Note: The shirts run one size smaller than what’s on the tag; so if you want a Large, you would want one with an Extra Large tag.

Local Breweries Brew BOCK Beers

If you make beer at one of our local breweries, whether for winning a competition or just for funsies, let us know so we can announce it to the whole club!
