Water main flushing
April 20 @ 8:00 am - May 30 @ 5:00 pm
Kentucky American Water will begin flushing water mains on April 20th, continuing through late May. Throughout this period, Kentucky American will switch from using chloramine to chlorine as a sanitizer. The smell of chlorine in your water may become more prominent. However, chlorine is easier than chloramine to remove from brewing water. Options for removing chlorine from brewing water include: allow water to sit for 24 hours before your brew day, boil water for 15 minutes before brewing, pre-treat water with a crushed Campden (potassium metabisulfite) tablet at a rate of one tablet per 20 gallons water, purify the water using a reverse osmosis (RO) system, filter the water through an activated carbon filter.
