We had another great meeting at Wise Bird cider this month.
The homebrew share was excellent, and it was nice to be able to sample some cider.

Officer Elections

Ryan Harding is fortunately stepping in as the event coordinator in training. Thank you for helping out.
We will have Secondary Fermentor, Scribe, and a Director position open in December, please consider volunteering, and reach out to a current officer if you’d like to learn more.

Bluegrass Cup

September 18th 
Shrewsbury Hall – Alltech 

  • We will need judges, stewards, running the raffle, etc. This is our largest event of the year, so please plan on helping.
  • To-date entries are lower than previous years, please enter if you’ve been considering it.

Barrel Project

Competition Season:

Have you won a medal at a competition? If so, please complete this survey. The goal is to add a page to the website showcasing member accomplishments.

After a hiatus for much of last year, competitions are plentiful this summer. A few notable ones:

  • Millstone Festival Homebrew contest:
    • On-site brew day (optional) on September 4th at Dreaming Creek Brewery.
      • Dreaming Creek will provide 15 lbs of 2-row from Malteurop Malting Company to anyone that brews on-site
      • 160 degree water will also be available
    • Four 12oz bottles need submitted to Dreaming Creek by October 1st
    • Label with name, style and specialty ingredients
    • Winners announced on October 9th at the Richmond Millstone Festival. Trophy for winner.
    • email patrick@dreamingcreekbrewery.beer with any questions or entry information.
  • Lemons Mill Brew-off:
    • Cash prizes (1st – $480, 2nd – $240, 3rd – $80).
    • Drop off: 9/5 1-8pm, 9/7 4-9pm, 9/8 6-8pm, 9/9 4-10pm
      • We will try to coordinate a drop-off and delivery. Reach out if you’re interested.
    • 4 bottles / entry. No entry fee.
    • Standard BJCP labeling, plus ABV and hops used.

  • Blue Stallion:
    • Interested in brewing a few beers with members for craft beer week.
  • Bruce Street Brewfest – 10/2 – Sevierville, TN

    • Homebrew competition with brewers having booths and serving their beer during the festival, including people’s choice awards.
    • Registration is open, closes 9/18
    • AHA/BJCP competition 9/19
      • Registration is open, closes 9/4
      • Judges get 2 free passes to the Brewfest
  • KY State Fair – 8/13-14
    • Good luck to those that entered
  • Beer & Sweat – August 21
    • Registration closed 8/11
    • Please consider judging/stewarding – this club always helps us with BGC. Or just attend for the keg party.

Mash Madness:

School has started, Fall is here, and it’s time for another rendition of Mash Madness.

Mash Madness is a club only, head-to-head, bracket style competition.

We will draw for spots on the bracket and the style both brewers will brew. Only styles that can be ready in less than 6 weeks will be selected. The beers will be judged and the winner will move onto the next round. Complete rules can be found here.

Check out https://www.bockbrew.com/ for monthly meeting information and upcoming events. Members should register to take advantage of the topics/discussions (like Barrel Program recipes), putting other members’ faces to names, past Froth issues and more.

How to Register:

  • Go to www.bockbrew.com.
  • Create an account here. When not logged in you will find this link under “Members”.
  • Fill out your account with a photo and membership info (go to the members page, find your profile and click edit).
  • Once registered your account will be flagged for approval by an officer. Once it is approved you will receive an email letting you know.
  • Now you have access to member-only areas of the site such as “Topics”, where club events like barrel fills and bulk malts are discussed, and “Froth” where current and previous issues of Froth can be read over and over.
