Club Business – End of Year Elections

We will be having end-of-year elections in December for the Event Coordinator In Training, Secondary Fermenter, Scribe, one of the Director positions, and the newly created Social Media Director. Please consider serving a term. Reach out to any of the officers with any questions you have about this.

Bulk Malt Purchase

BrewerDude’s bulk purchase was a few stops away Monday night. If you joined in on the bulk purchase, you should have already been notified about the status of your order.

2019 BrewerDude Mash Madness

First round of match ups need to be turned in at BrewerDude’s store by Friday, November 8th (but If you help judge on November 10th, you can bring your beer then instead).

Judging for the 1st round of Mash Madness will happen this coming Sunday from 2-3 PM at Blue Stallion. We need 12-13 additional judges for this round. Please sign up if you’re interested, even if you have little or no judging experience. It’s a great learning opportunity as less experienced judges will be paired up with one or more of BOCK’s very knowledgeable BJCP-ranked judges. If you can help reach out to Clay.

At the meeting on November 11th, we’ll announce winners and draw for the second round. Full bracket can be found here.

BOCKtoberfest 2019

A big thanks to Dirk for hosting this year’s BOCKtoberfest again! The low country boil was as good as it always is, and the sides/deserts that everyone brought were great and left no one hungry. Dirk’s band, Heisenberg, put on a great show while we continued to open new beers.

This member’s only event is one of the highlights of the year. We’ll see you there next year.

Learn to Homebrew

AHA’s Learn to Homebrew Day was last weekend. As a 501(c)(3) Educational Non-Profit, one of our missions is to educate those interested about homebrewing. We aligned our Iron Mash this year to fall on the same day, so that the curious could come out and see various equipment setups and what the community is like.

If you’re interested in joining the AHA, sign up with our referral link to get a free copy of Brewing Classic Styles by John Palmer, and Jamil Zainasheff.

Iron Mash 2019

Grapefruits, lemons, boxes of cereal, Nutty Bars, sorghum syrup, five kinds of specialty grain and 4 kinds of hops were all part of this year’s mystery ingredient box… add a new twist of unhopped wort instead of base malt, and you’ve got yourself BOCK’s most interesting club competition of the year.

For those that brewed, turn in will be before the January meeting. Details to come later.

Thanks so much to Brewer Dude for sponsoring and Rock House Brewing for hosting this super fun event!

OLLI Beer Sessions

Club members Steve Scheff & Don Keach just finished giving a course on Home Brewing for the OLLI Program (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) that was hosted by West Sixth in their Barrel Room. Each of the 4 sessions were two hours long, and they actually brewed and bottled a beer during the course. Each of the students took home 4-5 bottles to enjoy once carbonation completed. Thanks to BrewerDude for supplying the brown ale kit they used.

Thanks to Don and Steve for not only representing our club well, but furthering our mission as an educational non-profit!

Stan Hieronymus Presentation

Block off Saturday, December 7th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to listen to Stan Hieronymus tell you everything you didn’t know you wanted to know about hops at the Rock House production building. Stan is going to do a presentation on new hop varieties and hopping techniques for the home brewer. There will be a signup sheet for this at the next meeting. This presentation is free for BOCK members. Not a member, become a member for $20 (2020 early bird registration).

Local Breweries Brew BOCK Beers

Jeff Kirkner’s Triple B Brown Ale from Lexington Brewing Company was released at Gather on Main on October 14th to line up with our October meeting there!

If you make beer at one of our local breweries, whether for winning a competition or just for funsies, let us know so we can announce it to the whole club!

Home Brew Con 2020

Next year’s Home Brew Con will be in Nashville from June 18th through the 20th. We would like to have our own booth at the Club Night event, and could use some help deciding on a theme, designing and building the booth, organizing, and generally having some extra help for whatever needs to get done. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Tony Aiken

BOCK T-Shirts

We have some extra BOCK t-shirts available for $15. If you are interested, please reach out primary@bockbrew.com. Note: The shirts run one size smaller than what’s on the tag; so if you want a Large, you would want one with an Extra Large tag.

BOCK Instagram

BOCK has started an Instagram account to highlight the events that we host and/or attend. Follow our account at https://www.instagram.com/bockbrewky/
